[send private message] and William Lunsford [send private message]I am attempting to encourage other Lunsford's and Lunceford's to do Y DNA testing.
The purpose of this project is to give us a place to discuss how the surnames are actually interchangeable, how they split, and through Y DNA testing how we can bring the groups together.
My GG Grandfather Robert H (R.H) Lunsford was either displaced or ran away from home and no certainty has been achieved in determining his lineage. Y DNA testing confirms he was a Lunsford but his lineage has not been confirmed. See Lunsford-811
Sadly there are others out there that uncertain about their lineage.
For example Nimrod Lunsford is attributed with three wives and between 29 to 32 children. Only through Dna testing can we hope to unravel his mystery. I wish he was the only one but research shows other examples.
So lets use this space to give us a common place to unravel he mysteries and come together.

The Lunsfords intermarried with the Wynn/Wynne families, so there are many double-first, double-second, etc. cousins. That makes research infuriating! Any input is appreciated.
We have identified the common Lunsford genome (regardless how it's spelled) and more direct Lunsford descendants need to test. We recommend Y111 testing as a minimum. Big Y testing is a plus.
Y111 is included in the BigY test through Family Tree DNA.

I have a tremendous amount of information from my family. My great aunt and her daughter did a significant amount of research and have traced our line of Lunsford's back to Europe. I'm happy to share! Their hard work is comprised of type-written pages that I have scanned.

I've got the oldest traceable Lunsford on my tree as Jesse Lunsford from Greene County, Indiana b.1886/7 d.1956 I've not confirmed his lineage to John Lunsford b.1860-ish and Margaret Ann Graves-Lunsford b.1857-ish. I've been working on that link, but the information is sparse. Prior to that, Jesse's grandfather MAY have been James Lunsford b.1840(?) and his grandmother, Amanda Ferguson b.1834(?) but again, I've not completely confirmed that yet.
